Duke Energy to Become Newest Tenant at Markland Business Park

Duke Energy is coming to the Markland Business Park. The company will be occupying the Markland Center, a 10,000 square foot county-owned facility. The facility will be used for office and meeting space, logistics, and inventory.

Duke announced in 2016 that it would be upgrading its hydroelectric power plant at the Markland Dam. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission has approved Duke’s plans to modernize, replace and upgrade the three hydroelectric turbines, generators and related equipment which have been in service for nearly 50 years.

Work on the project began earlier this year and is expected to continue into 2021. The completed upgrade is expected to cost over $150 million and increase the output of the facility by over 6.5 megawatts.

Duke’s Markland Hydro station was originally brought online in 1967, the facility is currently rated to generate 65 megawatts of renewable power.
